we invite you to get a acquainted with the different levels of editing
and a general range of compensation.
Level One:
In general, PROOFREADING involves the identification and correction of typographical errors,
punctuation errors, misspellings, and formatting inconsistencies. It may also mean comparing two
documents for uniformity.
COPYEDITING covers the same areas, but may include grammar, word usage, capitalization, word
breaks, tone, and format.
Level Two:
DEVELOPMENTAL / SUBSTANTIVE EDITING seeks to achieve clarity of subject, logic, and
consistency. Confusing and awkward writing may be reworked. Sentences are analyzed for
structure/syntax. Long sentences may be clarified and/or simplified. Proofreading, copyediting, and
substantive editing often occur simultaneously.
Level Three:
PRE PRESS/ PRE FLIGHT –When required, style revisions will be suggested or implemented
(e.g., page numbers, margins, headings, spacing, indentations/paragraphs, quotes, references, citations, footnotes, endnotes, addition of ISBN and barcode). Reserved for clients who desire to have UPRC or LMP to be the publishers. The submitted materials will be made ready to be published. Client is still responsible for financial arrangements with the selected book printer.
